Honesty and integrity and an understanding of Constitutional principles. If we have this in our citizen statesmen, then any issue can be handled.

I would add honesty or trustworthiness. At this point I will be voting for whatever candidate I believe will vote in the way they believe is best, rather than for partisan political reasons or as the result of large lobbying efforts, even if that person does not align with my views.
