If you lived here in the US, you'd've been able to sit in your armchair last night and watch The West Wing, in which the pseirdential candidates spontaneously agreed to throw out the carefully scripted rules and debate the issues mano-a-mano, like Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas.But that's only on TV. In real life, the candidates don't debate, and voters rely on exit polls to determine if they'll bother to vote, at all.OTOH, recent Israeli elections haven't been much better, not that it mattered; after all, Arik Sharon did campaign on not leaving Gaza...
