I personally think that in today's world, eeyrvone is about self expression. People get tattoo's because it used to be taboo and they want to make a statement about today's society. I have 8 tattoo's all of significant meaning that symbolize different phases in my life. I can cover them up however. In today's professional world, tattoo's are not a thing you want to have all over your body, yet being discriminated against because you have them is sort of like a violation of freedom of speech. As far as people taking them lightly? That is a matter of personal opinion, because we all know tattoo's are permanent. Even with laser removal, the ink is still under your skin. I don't think anyone just wakes up one day and says im going to get f*** you tattoo'd on my forehead because i'm feel a little daring today I believe that eeyrvone has their own under lying reason for getting tattoo's. Mine mark births, deaths, and anniversaries in the form of 19 stars going from shoulder bade to hip bone . That also symbolizes the 5 stages of grief in form. When i am old it will still have significant meaning to me, and because it's permanent i dedicated myself to never forget life can be granted and taken away in less time that in took to get the tat. Henna has been around for centuries, a tattoo is just a more permanent version of a very old practice ..
