Go for the Dresden Files it's the Rockford Files meets Harry Potter if Harry was American and broke. But BETTER. (Not dissing Naomi Novik, thuogh but read His Majesty's Dragon first, if you haven't. She comes in a very close second to Jim Butcher [and he is a fan of hers].)
