Norm, the 65+ plus demographic has alawys been important as the older folks vote in higher percentage than younger folks who are too busy working, partying, raising kids etc. etc. to pay much attention. The other fact about the 65+ demographic is they will be growing by leaps and bounds as the boomers qualify for Old Age Pension.
