SA1 is much better becusae you are not forced to play as Knuckles and Tails. You can be Sonic through the whole game, then if you feel like it, play through as the other characters. It was so frustrating the first time through SA2, after an action packed Sonic level, having to look for Emeralds as Knuckles. SA1 had a better story too and the character's don't interrupt each other in their dialogue.
