I have been looking for a site like this for smmteioe and am so happy to find somewhere to get step mom support! I love and adore my step children (I have 2) but absolutely struggle with certain feelings of giving everything I have an getting little in return. This deepened once I had my son and I constantly struggle with feelings of guilt of not spending enough time with one or the other etc. I'm in a situation where I have become more of the motherly figure to my stepchildren and their mom is more of their friend? I don't know anyone else who is a step mom and it's so hard to explain to others what I go through smmteioes and what my husband and I go through as a result. I wouldn't give up my blended family for anything in the world, but it sure would be nice to have someone to talk to about the tough things! People are always surprised to find out that I am step mom and not mom since my sc spend so much time with me. Sometimes I feel like I'm treated like an outsider, almost like since I'm step mom and not MOM that I don't count? Or I'm like a babysitter or something? Not sure if anyone else has ever felt that way But I do often feel judged and like I have to prove something to people? Idk it's nice to read that I'm not the only once experiencing different things like this and struggling with all the wonderful feelings that come with stepmotherhood as well as the tough ones. ~I love the term SMOM. My stepchildren call me by my first name, which has always worked for us. But now I have my own child and I just wish we could maybe use a term like that, maybe I will start by signing a school lunch note smom and see if it sticks? Thanks!
