Sometimes I freak out about being attacked or mguged, but my usual fear is being bit by a dog. I've been bit several times while running before, once by a nice golden retriever who wouldn't hurt anyone (that's the story the owners told animal control, in any case) you just never know how a dog will react to a runner. When I go home to run the trails in Oregon and Washington, I am really afraid of cougars. I've seen several (only once while running) and they just give me the absolute creeps and I know it's their instinct to attack anything that runs.@Spartan7: please don't judge the girls who give you a wide berth. Maybe you look like a creep. Hell, maybe you ARE a creep. And you have no idea what the background of those women are. I've been attacked (though not while running) and I am definitely more cautious around strange men even ones driving Priuses. So give us girls a break and realize that the only thing we have between ourselves and an attacker is our wits. (BTW, this girl can run a 1:25 half-marathon. I wonder if you call 30 year old males boys too?)
