Hi L,It helps me to remember that dicsosiative parts of the personality are representations, not literally separate people. It is the meaning and function of what they represent that is essential for you (and your therapist) to understand. Coping with Trauma-Related Dissociation | Boon, Steele, van der Hart I wrote about the is this real or did i make it up' question a while back , perhaps you can relate.A question (in no way meant to draw an exact, literal parallel between your situation and the one I present):A combat veteran with PTSD is having a nightmare. He's lying on his side in the sand. Someone is behind him, about to shoot him. He wrenches himself awake and aims a hard jab at the body behind him. His wife gasps and screams, her nose bloodied. He realizes he's had a nightmare. Was the threat real or did he make it up?
